Just got word Lt. Steven Velazquez and FF Micahel Baik both of Ladder 11 were pulled from the third floor following mayday calls that were transmitted by them as they were performing a search and venting the floor above the fire on the third floor of a three-decker. Based on some of the witness descriptions it sounds like they possibly may have been caught in a flashover. Velazquez had worked down at Kentland VFD Sta. 33 down in Prince Georges County before moving to Bridgeport. They were recovered by a RIT team following the mayday call, both in cardiac arrest. They were recovered within minutes of the mayday calls. Another firefighter fell from a third story window and recieved a broken ankle and other injuries. Two others for heat exhaustion. Both of the victims had families & kids, Velazquez a newborn baby.

Say a prayer for our brothers and their families tonight.

I am organizing the fire truck division for Fitchburg's fourth of July parade again this year. The parade this year is on July 4, 2010 and it will start at 1100 am from our Summer St. Station 42 Summer St. Fitchburg. I would like all trucks to assemble at 1015 am. We will have judging on apparatus, coffee and donuts. We will once again lead the parade so companies will not be tied up for longer than a couple hours. Anyone attending send me and email at pjr35c6@yahoo.com.

Thanks

Shifting gears a little bit with Spring Training into the new decade, we present “Advanced Auto Extrication, beyond the ‘Five-Star Challenge’.â€

This hands-on program is designed for responders who are proficient in their vehicle extrication skills. Skills taught and practiced this weekend will go beyond the intermediate skill levels. Attendees will perform challenging team problem solving extrication scenarios, included but not limited to, vehicle rollover, on their sides (more and less than half way), frontal offset, over and under rides. This program won’t just be cars.  Expect the unexpected, much the same as we encounter every day on the highways and byways.  Extrication is no different than any other FOOLS-style training will consist of extreme vehicle extrication scenarios based on situations that will challenge the extrication team to their limits and beyond.

The Curriculum will consist of four skills stations covering:
-Extrication Challenges, Maximizing Your Personnel
-Airbag Rescue Scenarios
-Street Smart Vehicle Stabilization
-Introduction to Heavy Truck and Bus Emergencies

We will be using the latest extrication equipment from Hurst, Genesis, Paratech, Matjack, Champion and more.
