The Black Sunday Fire happened on January 23, 2005 when a three alarm fire swept through the Bronx in New York City. Crews went to work searching for trapped people when conditions changed rapidly and a fast moving fire forced six firefighters to jump out a fourth floor window. Lt. Curtis Meyran and Firefighter John Bellew lost their lives and firefighter’s Brendan Cawley, Jeff Cool, Eugene Stolowski, and Joe DiBernardo were seriously injured. The fire known as Black Sunday was instantly seen as one of the department’s darkest moments
